FEBRUARY 25, 2015
Two employees received special recognition during the February 25 meeting of the Corrections Commission of Northwest Ohio.
Corrections Officer Mike Dobbins of Defiance was named CCNO Employee of the Year for 2014 as was announced during the meeting. Mike has been employed at CCNO since August 6, 2012.
Officer Dobbins was nominated for the honor as a result of an incident that occurred in a medium security female unit in January 2014. He was instrumental in preventing an offender from jumping off from a second floor railing. He was credited for his quick thinking and reaction that prevented the offender from harming herself.
CCNO Executive Director Jim Dennis said, "a female officer was searching a suicidal inmate's cell while the mental health nurse was talking to her. The inmate ran from the nurse to the second tier to jump. Mike quickly ran up the stairs, grabbed her and pulled her off the railing. The entire incident transpired over a period of seconds. Mike prevented serious injuries from occurring."
Brenda Byers of Wauseon was named CCNO Top Contract Employee for 2014. Brenda has been employed with Recovery Services of Northwest Ohio in Defiance since 2006. She started as a part time residential monitor at Serenity Haven. Brenda began working at CCNO in 2008 as an alcohol/drug counselor. In 2011 she accepted the position of Community Psychiatric Support Worker Re-Entry/AOD Counselor. She became the women's trauma counselor in 2012 at CCNO. On August 1, 2013, she was promoted to Recovery Services Program Director at CCNO.
