Jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were reopened to the City of Toledo after being closed over the weekend. The doors were reopened when the jail population was reduced to 578 around 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Doors had been closed Saturday to the City of Toledo as its population stood at 276.67 or 113 percent of capacity. They were 32.67 beds over their limit. The overall population at CCNO stood at 607 or 95 percent on Saturday, dropped to 601 or 94 percent on Sunday and stood at 593 or 33 percent on Monday.
This morning’s population stood at 596 or 93 percent. Defiance County was at 50.5 or 81 percent; Fulton County at 48.8 or 99 percent; Henry County at 24 or 67 percent; Lucas County at 162.33 or 82 percent; Toledo at 260.8 or 107 percent; and Williams County at 49.5 or 99 percent.
It is the eighth overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
