Welcome to the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MAY 21, 2008
As a holiday weekend draws near, jail doors at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio were closed Wednesday to three jurisdictions as a result of overcrowding.
Doors were closed Wednesday morning to Defiance and Henry counties as well as the City of Toledo. Defiance County’s count stood at 69.5 or 112 percent; Henry County at 36 or 100 percent and the City of Toledo at 271 or 111 percent. Overall the population climbed to 622 or 97 percent.
Counts of other jurisdictions stood at 39 or 80 percent for Fulton County; 166.5 or 85 percent for Lucas County; and 40 or 80 percent for Williams County.
It is the fifth overcrowding emergency to be declared in 2008. There were 23 such emergencies declared in 2007 and 13 in 2006.
CCNO policy allows the executive director to place the facility in an emergency status when the inmate population reaches 95 percent or 606. In addition, those jurisdictions with inmate populations above 90 percent are asked to consider granting early releases for eligible inmates.
